Easter Seals Month

As March comes to a close, so does our 2023 Easter Seals Month, and what an incredible month it has been.

Our hope throughout the month was to spread awareness of Easter Seals NL and what we offer to the community, and to raise important funds to support our over 20 programs and services for people with disabilities in the province. This was made possible through many amazing partnerships with local businesses and the Government, and hundreds of people who came out to support an event or share news of it through social media.

We kicked off Easter Seals Month at the Government House, where we announced our 2023 Easter Seals NL Ambassador, Andrew Woodrow who presented the 2023 Seals to our Patron Her Honour The Honourable Judy May Foote, P.C., O.N.L., Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland. The celebrations continued until after the sky went dark, and the Government House was lit up red in support of Easter Seals NL, an annual tradition in St. John’s.

The month continued and on March 13th, we then launched the 2023 #unstoppABLE Paper Egg Campaign, a national campaign that takes place across the Country. 18 incredible partners located all across the province came on board this year to support people with disabilities and sell Paper Eggs in-store, from Happy Valley-Goose Bay to Port aux Basques to Carbonear and the Avalon!

Following the launch of the Paper Egg campaign, Easter Seals NL hosted five fundraising events (that’s right, FIVE!), and what amazing events they were! We started with a Cookie Decorating Class on March 15th, where participants learned the tips and tricks to using royal icing to decorate St. Patrick’s Day-themed cookies.

Next, we went BIGGER and arrived at the Mary Browns Centre on March 18th to cheer on the Growlers as they faced the Adirondack Thunder and WON in a shoot-out! Thank you to the entire Growlers team for hosting Easter Seals NL and allowing us the opportunity to spread awareness about our organization and what we offer to the community. Thank you to everyone who came out on March 18th.

From there, we visited Studio VERSŌ for a spin class fundraiser through their VERSŌ Gives Program. 19 people joined us on Sunday, March 20th to sweat it out in support of Easter Seals NL. Studio VERSŌ creates a more inclusive community by offering adaptive equipment for their spin and row classes, and we are grateful for the support!

And the fundraising didn’t stop there! On Monday, March 20th, Radhika from Radhika’s Creative Corner hosted a paint night at Easter Seals NL. Participants created their Easter-themed masterpieces and they were amazing.

And finally, we hosted our final fundraising event of Easter Seals Month 2023: a 90’s themed trivia night! Over 60 people joined us to test their 90’s music, pop culture, and movie knowledge and win delicious prizes from our prize sponsors Rocket Bakery and Landwash Brewery.

If we were to wrap up this month with one word, it would be grateful. We are so grateful for our community, which continues to support Easter Seals NL and our mission to inspire, engage, and maximize opportunities for people with disabilities in the province.

On behalf of the staff, Board of Directors, and participants at Easter Seals NL, thank you.
