Helping Andrew Create Awareness

Andrew Woodrow is 15 years old and lives in St. John’s. He has Muscular Dystrophy.  At the age of 12, Andrew transitioned to using a wheelchair and has been involved in Easter Seals NL programs since.

Andrew really loves playing Boccia. Over the past year, he has won silver in the 2022 Provincial Boccia Tournament hosted by Easter Seals NL, and his team won the Jeremy’s Cup last summer.

Outside of Easter Seals, Andrew loves to swim, draw maps, play guitar, and sing. He has his own YouTube Channel called Wildmapper, with 160 subscribers, 20,000 views, and growing. This has really helped him become more comfortable with public speaking.

Andrew is very passionate about accessibility and advocates wherever he can. Starting with his school where he outlined opportunities for accessibility improvements.

Andrew’s plan for post-secondary education is to study to become an engineer or urban planner. Andrew has a unique perspective on urban planning because he is in a wheelchair. He believes all public spaces should be accessible. Andrew wants to make the world more accessible, and a way to do that is by becoming an urban planner.

“Since transitioning to a wheelchair at the age of 12, Easter Seals has helped me find activities I enjoy while making new friends. I am excited to become the 2023 Easter Seals Ambassador. It will give me the opportunity to gain experience and improve my public speaking. I look forward to advocating for accessibility for people just like me. ” Andrew Woodrow
