In June, Interim Recreation Program Manager, Dayna Penney, and Boccia NL and Easter Seals NL Lead Boccia Volunteer, Eileen Bartlett, traveled to Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Marystown to share their love of Boccia with the communities in partnership with the YMCA! They were a great success. Thank you to everyone who joined in the fun!
Boccia is a Paralympic sport of precision and strategy, similar to lawn bowling or curling. It is one of only two Paralympic sports that do not have an Olympic counterpart. Athletes compete in a specific sports class based on their level and type of disability.
Boccia is considered the most inclusive sport in the world and is played at all levels, from recreational all the way up to Paralympic competition. Easter Seals NL’s Boccia Programs focus on all levels of play. From introducing our athletes to the sport to allowing them to play recreationally, and providing a space for competitive practices. Some of our athletes also train as part of our Canadian National Team, these athletes attend our programming to mentor their fellow athletes.
Are you interested in learning more about the game of Boccia? Please contact our Interim Recreation Programs Manager, Dayna Penney, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or our lead Boccia volunteer, Eileen Bartlett, at email@example.com.
Our goal is to provide people of all ages with physical, cognitive, and any other disabilities with the opportunity to participate in programs and services that aim to build inclusion in Newfoundland and Labrador.
