Here is a little about our 2021 ESNL Ambassador, Gavin Baggs, in his own words:
“Hello, my name is Gavin Baggs, I’m thirteen years old, I live in Paradise, Newfoundland, I go to school at Mount Pearl Intermediate and I am the Easter Seals Ambassador for 2021.
When I found out that I was chosen to be the Ambassador, I was extremely excited. I couldn’t wait to meet new people and go to many events, but most importantly, I couldn’t wait to represent Easter Seals.Easter Seals means a lot to me, it’s what mostly got me started in the sport. When I saw Team Canada at the Paralympics playing Wheelchair Basketball and Para Hockey, I thought to myself, that’s what I want to do. Then my parents and I found the parasport programs at Easter Seals. As I have gotten older and progressing in sports I have been playing with the NL wheelchair basketball team and with the Avalon Sled Dogs. I get to play with a Paralympian, Liam Hickey, every week. Not many 13-year-old athletes get to do that every week. Being involved in parasport has given me the opportunity to play for Team NL at the Canada Games.
Easter Seals has let me meet many people and has given me many opportunities. This year, I decided to give back to Easter Seals and become a volunteer coach with the Sledge Hockey program. So, in short, Easter Seals has given me more than I can give back.I have a lot to look forward to this coming year. I get to do so many things I’ve never done before, I get to meet new people whom I never thought I would meet, and are giving me new opportunities to which I’ve never imagined I’d have.
I am the Easter Seals ambassador, and I am going to love it!”
