Let’s Get Active

Reach Your Physical Activity Goals

Let’s Get Active focuses on developing fundamental movement skills and physical literacy.

Our Let’s Get Active Program allows children to explore their balance, motor skills, and flexibility using hula hoops, parachute games, balls, bean bags, and more. During this program, we introduce children to basic skills used in para-sports such as Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia, and Baseball. The sessions focus on fundamentals, station play, introduction to parasport, group play, and cooperative play. Easter Seals NL assists our participants in reaching their physical activity goals in a fun, exciting, and rewarding way by engaging them in challenging games and activities. Some goals may be “I want to use my walker or wheelchair better”, “I want to play baseball”, or “I wish to throw further.” With a large interest in this program, we have divided into smaller groups based on the skills and goals the participants share.

The program has been divided into 3 sessions based on interest and engagement levels:

Fundamentals: This session focuses on the development of fundamental movement skills through play and the introduction of basic movements used in physical activity. This group works on independent and cooperative play through group and individual activities.

Sport: This session introduces our participants to para-sports. Participants will learn the basics of boccia, wheelchair basketball, sledge hockey, soccer, baseball, and more. Through skill development and gameplay, they will try out different sports and sports skills to learn what they may be interested in playing more. This session focuses on group play, team play, and cooperative games.

Active: This session focuses on fundamental skills and socialization, through group and individual play, choice learning of skills through a station set up as well as large group games.

Programs that change lives.

  • Making a Difference for Over 80 Years

Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador is a charitable organization that has operated in NL since 1937; it is dedicated to maximizing the abilities and enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.

  • Stories of Success

“When my son was younger he and his friends used to play all the time. As his friends grew up they started to play stand-up sports and he began to feel left out. This all changed when he found Easter Seals. Here he feels included with life-long friends. I can’t describe the pride I feel when I see him laughing at wheelchair basketball.”
