Fast-Paced Competition

Easter Seals NL’s Wheelchair Basketball Program provides athletes with an exciting, inclusive, and high-energy environment to learn, grow, and compete. Whether participants are discovering the sport for the first time or working to advance their skills, this program is designed to meet them where they are and help them achieve their goals.

The program runs weekly and is divided into two sessions:

  • Introductory Session – Tailored for younger players and those new to wheelchair basketball. Athletes are introduced to the fundamentals of the sport, including ball-handling, shooting, passing, and teamwork. The emphasis is on fun, skill development, and building confidence on the court.
  • Development Session – Created for athletes looking to refine their skills and engage in more competitive gameplay. Sessions focus on strategy, advanced drills, game situations, and structured game play, providing participants with the tools to take their skills to the next level.

ESNL Recreation Staff may move participants to a different session if it’s a better fit for their skill level or experience. This helps make sure everyone has a fun, safe and comfortable session.

Each participant is fitted with a sport wheelchair to use throughout the season, ensuring equal access to the game. Athletes benefit from the guidance of experienced coaches, encouragement from dedicated volunteers, and the camaraderie of teammates who share a passion for sport.

Beyond athletics, the program fosters teamwork, resilience, and community, giving participants opportunities to build friendships, grow their confidence, and stay active in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Our 2025 – 2026 Season

Dates: October 14, 2025 – June 9, 2026
Day: Tuesdays
Time:

  • Introductory Session: 6:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Development Session: 7:30pm – 8:30pm

Important Dates:

  • No Sessions: November 11, 2025 & April 7, 2026
  • Last Session Before Holiday Break: December 9, 2025
  • Return From Holiday Break: January 13, 2026
