Persons with disabilities in Newfoundland and Labrador have a new advocate and role model: 14 year-old St. John’s resident Claire McCarthy. Claire was installed as the Ambassador for 2020 at a ceremony at Government House in February.
Claire participated in sledge hockey, air rifle shooting, and swimming programs at Easter Seals NL.
Easter Seals NL has shown Claire that she can have fun and play sports just like her friends. She also enjoyed volunteering with the “I Can Too” Disability Awareness Program because she was able to show more people that having a disability doesn’t define you.
Our goal is to provide people of all ages with physical, cognitive, and any other disabilities with the opportunity to participate in programs and services that aim to build inclusion in Newfoundland and Labrador.
