Summer Day Camp Guidelines
The Easter Seals NL summer day camp program has had increasing demand over the past several years. This year’s day camp program runs for the 8 weeks of July and August, July 5 – Aug 27, 2021.
Due to COVID-19, specific guidelines regarding operation of camp will be sent to all registrants closer to the start of camp. Maximum registration for any one week is capped at 20 campers. There will be a waitlist implemented for any registration beyond 20 campers, acceptance will be based on supports available and Public Health Guidelines. Upon availability families will be contacted to register off the waitlist.
Campers are accepted for Day Camp based on the following criteria
Easter Seals NL reserves the right at their discretion to accept or refuse any camper.
Registration for summer day camp has a majority of campers in the range of 8 to 17 years. There are some campers under age 7 and a few campers that are 18 years and above. Day camp registration is accepted for campers to an age maximum 30 years.
Day camp includes a variety of programs that are designed to be well structured, age appropriate programs in a safe and secure setting allowing for increased levels of self esteem, confidence and positive development.
Easter Seals NL Day camp counselors are trained to provide assistance with personal care, feeding and lifting and transfers but our resources are spread throughout the needs of all campers. Counsellors will the trained and prepared to meet the needs of campers while following COVID -19 guidelines.
Easter Seals NL does not have resources to provide one to one supervision. The Easter Seals NL day camp is a new environment for campers and less structured than their familiar daily routines. If campers identify as requiring a one to one assistant at school or daily living, families are required to provide the one to one worker at camp. If the camper requires specific one on one support Easters Seals will request additional support from the family. Easter Seals requires a support plan to be completed for all campers indicating how the camper’s needs are met in a group setting.
Our goal is to provide people of all ages with physical, cognitive, and any other disabilities with the opportunity to participate in programs and services that aim to build inclusion in Newfoundland and Labrador.
